Why Kweku Flick was suspended from seminary school

Ghanaian musician Kweku Flick has disclosed that he was once suspended indefinitely from a seminary senior high school due to his intense love of music.

The “Money” hitmaker discussed how his developing passion for secular music clashed with the rigid atmosphere of St. Hubert Seminary Senior High School, where he started his secondary education, in an interview with Deloris Frimpong Manso on The Delay Show.

The rapper claims that his passion in music began at home and was greatly impacted by his oldest brother. “I come from a family of five, and my older brother’s musical endeavors served as an inspiration to me,” he stated.

However, things became complicated when his musical activities began attracting other students.

Flick explained that he often visited the studio after school hours, but many of his colleagues followed him there. At times, they recorded videos of their studio sessions while still dressed in their school uniforms something that eventually caught the attention of school authorities.

Why I once thought Kwesi Arthur didn’t like me – Kweku Flick narrates

“Whenever I went to the studio, colleague students followed me there. We would be in school uniforms taking videos from our moments and that sparked issues,” he said.

By the time he was almost in his second year, the situation had escalated. The school administration suspended him indefinitely.

According to him, the decision came after authorities indicated that he had previously signed a behavioural bond over similar issues.

“This was when I was almost in my second year. I was suspended indefinitely,” he revealed.

Flick and his family concluded he had no alternative except to pursue his studies elsewhere after two months of waiting for a judgment to lift the suspension. His parents went to the school to ask questions since they were upset by the development.

He said, “They informed my parents that although I had previously signed a bond regarding my behavior, they had to suspend me because the behavior persisted.” The rapper insisted that he didn’t skip school to pursue music in spite of the disciplinary consequences.

“I was a day student and whenever I went to the studio, I made sure I had closed from school,” he added.

Following the incident, Flick transferred to Tweneboah Kodua Senior High School but could not stay long due to the cold weather in Kumawu.

He eventually finished his secondary schooling at Assemblies of God Senior High School, where he took the WASSCE during the 2018–2019 school year.

The rapper also disclosed that his late father strongly supported his aspirations, despite his mother’s lack of support at the time for his musical career. It’s interesting to note that after releasing his breakthrough hit “Money,” his music career started to garner attention when he was a student at Assemblies of God Senior High School.

“I released ‘Money’ when I was at Assemblies of God Senior High, and it was a banger,” he remarked. Today, his music career is built on the same enthusiasm that had led to his school suspension.
